Want to work at cdfa?
The cdfa is the trade association for CDFIs – non-profit financial institutions that lend to small businesses and social enterprises, individuals, and civil society organisations. In the wake of uncertain economic forecasts, cdfa is determined to capitalise on the wave of public and policy interest around social investment, and in particular the type of community finance offered by our CDFI members. We are convinced that now is the time to build a new offer to those sizable communities around the UK that continue to be denied access to even the basic financial services, that we know are the foundation for local economic development, social equality and new opportunity.
We are currently recruiting for a Head of Business Development, Finance Officer, Communications/PR Officer and two part-time posts (making up one job-share) for the role of Membership Officer; all posts will be based in London. Core competencies across all posts include a strong ‘can do’ quality to the way the organisation functions, along with an emphasis on entrepreneurial flair.
(1) Download the Job Description for the role you intend to apply for (see below)
(2) Download and fill out the cdfa Vacancy Application Form 2012 (same for all posts)
(3) For membership officer, please include in your Personal Statement (on the application form) your experience or suitability for a job-share role, and which days of the week you could work
(4) Email your application to f.caillaud@cdfa.org.uk. Please include in the subject line of your email the post to which you are applying and your full name. We are advertising via Women Like Us, Guardian Jobs Online, Third Sector Jobs, and many other networks within the sector, so please do let us know where you found out about the job
The cdfa is moving rapidly towards self generated income as the primary source of investment – this role has been established to devise a sustainable business model for cdfa‘s next phase. It will require a skill set of high level project management, business development, entrepreneurial ability and financial knowledge. You will be expected to lead on the cdfa‘s USP in providing an intermediary role in the delivery of funds to the membership (and possibly beyond). Your responsibilities will involve a mix of fund management (wholesale, dedicated and possibly consortia models), contract delivery (large scale consortia bids to BSC, Lottery, sector/business support services, various R & D functions,) and management of member services (CM2, network support, events). You will also have primary membership responsibilities, so will need strong networking, facilitation and relationship building capabilities.
Reporting to our Head of Finance and Operations, your responsibilities will include book-keeping, journals, management reports, VAT returns, credit control, invoicing and banking. As you will have sole responsibility for producing management accounts (profit and loss reports, balance sheet and cash flow), treasury reports and Statutory accounts, you will need significant experience of Finance Management, with AAT (or equivalent) qualifications. You should be proficient with Sage Line 50 and Quickbooks, and experienced in online banking systems. Knowledge of the sector is desirable rather than essential, but you will be expected to provide financial services related to the delivery of the cdfa‘s programme of wholesale funds as this rolls out over the coming years.
This post sits within the Policy and Communications unit, the legitimate ‘expert’ voice, advocate and champion for the sector; it will require high level communications skills, along with effective outwardly-facing advocacy, lobbying, and partnership building abilities. This unit will inform government, policy makers, investors and partners of the cdfa‘s work. Where appropriate you will be required to contribute to income generation through R & D project contracts and evaluation commissions.
This will be formed of two three-day a week posts (one working Mon-Wed, the other working Wed-Fri). As membership officer, you will implement the cdfa‘s new membership strategy to support and deliver its CM2 performance management resource. Working with the Head of Business Development, you will represent the cdfa on key regional groups to further the CDFI movement and to manage partnerships arising from these. After initial training in CM2 (specific to the sector) you will be expected to travel as required within the UK up to one day a week to fulfil high demand for this programme during 2012. Strong positive people skills, analytical strengths, and taking on an advocacy/champion role is expected, along with ideas to resource member development. Knowledge of the sector is desirable, particularly direct CDFI experience.
