Annual Conference
9 September 2011
This years conference ‘Striding Forward’ a resounding success!
Many thanks to all who attended our Annual Conference, with the theme Striding Forward, over the last two days in Liverpool.
Around 150 delegates were treated to wide ranging speakers including Caroline Mason, newly appointed Chief Operating Officer of Big Society Capital, John Young from the Bank of England and Peter Holbrook, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK. A fitting line-up echoing the complex space CDFIs fill between the economic and the social. Our new Chair, Jonathan Diggines, opened and closed proceedings setting out his desire to drive the sector forward.
Key announcements from the conference included:
- The launch of the new Community Business Loan Fund by RBS, with former CDFA Chief Executive Bernie Morgan sitting on the board
- More details on the operations and delivery of Big Society Capital, including the announcement that CDFIs lending to business would not be excluded from borrowing. Read more about the Big Society Capital announcements in the Financial Times.
- New lending figures for the sector, CDFIs portfolios have increased by 35% to £715m having lent 23,000 loans totalling over £180m in the last year
Delegates also had a chance to debate and shape the future strategy of CDFA with social impacts and revenue sourcing amongst the items discussed.
